A paver installation is really a base installation with a decorative surface on top. Excavation depth, the aggregate base, compaction in lifts, the bedding layer and the edge restraint decide whether a driveway is still flat in twenty years, and none of that is visible on the day it is finished. We install block pavers in every common profile, cobblestone for driveways, bands and entry courts, and permeable systems where drainage matters. Pavers suit Ventura County well: they flex slightly with ground movement instead of cracking, individual units can be lifted and replaced, and the joints let water through rather than sheeting it toward the house. Pavers laid on four inches of loose fill look identical to pavers laid on a properly compacted base for about two years, and then the wheel tracks start to dip. Your driveway keeps cracking
Paver driveways handle ground movement better than a continuous slab, because the joints absorb it. On the clay soils inland around Camarillo and Moorpark, that is the difference between a surface that stays intact and one that splits diagonally within a few years.
You want to be able to repair it
Damage a paver and you lift that paver. Stain a slab or crack it and you are looking at a saw cut and a patch that will never match. This is the strongest practical argument for units over poured surfaces.

How We Work
From the first walkthrough to the final cleanup, the same crew is on your property.
1. Design, samples and levels
We look at the drainage first, then the pattern. Samples are left on site for a few days so you can see them wet and dry, in morning and afternoon light. Levels are marked so you know exactly where the finished surface will sit against doors and thresholds.
2. Excavation and base
We dig to the depth the use requires, remove the spoil, then build and compact the aggregate base in lifts. Under driveways this is the majority of the labor and the entire reason the job lasts. A screeded bedding layer goes on top.
3. Laying, cutting and locking
Pavers are laid to a string line from a set starting edge, cuts are made with a saw at the perimeter, then edge restraint is installed and buried. The field is compacted, polymeric sand swept into the joints and activated, and the surface is cleaned down.

What Affects the Cost of Pavers
Paver cost splits between what you walk on and what you never see:
- Paver installation typically runs $15 to $30 per square foot, depending on the paver, the pattern and how deep the base has to be.
- Driveways cost more per square foot than patios, because the excavation and base are deeper and the compaction is more demanding.
- Demolition of an existing slab, plus hauling it away, is a real line and worth pricing separately so you can see it.
- Pattern complexity. Herringbone and circular patterns produce more cuts than running bond, and cuts are labor.
- Material. Standard concrete pavers sit at the value end; natural cobblestone and premium profiles at the top.
- Drainage work. Adding a channel drain or piping water off the site is priced on its own merits.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long do pavers last?
Quality paver installation lasts 25 to 50 years. Concrete pavers and brick pavers are both extremely durable, and individual pavers can be replaced if damaged, which is a major advantage over poured concrete. The base underneath is what determines whether you reach the top of that range.
Do pavers need to be sealed?
Paver sealing is recommended every two to three years to protect against staining, fading and weed growth between joints. It also enhances color and makes cleaning easier. It is optional rather than structural, and we will tell you honestly whether your surface and setting justify it.
Are pavers better than concrete for a driveway?
Paver driveways handle ground movement better than concrete because the joints allow slight flex without cracking. They also offer better drainage and are easier to repair, since you replace individual pavers instead of redoing a whole slab. Concrete costs less upfront and gives a continuous surface, so the right answer depends on your soil, your budget and how long you plan to stay.
